Bernhard Bischoff (*1973) has been working as a freelance curator, publicist, and cultural manager. In order to intensify his support of artists, he came up with the idea to open his own gallery. The former Hotel Beau Rivage in Thun, built in 1904, was the right place to realize his gallery plans. The gallery went into business in a picturesque location, nestled between the scenic old town of Thun and the green foothills of the Alps, overlooking the the river and the lake surrounded by mountains. In this historic ambience a gallery evolved, which made a commitment to presenting contemporary art. Over the years, artists with international radiance have displayed their works in the gallery’s rooms in annual exhibitions. In 2005 the gallery moved to Berne and Marlies Kornfeld became Bernhard Bischoff’s new business partner and helped to shape the future of the gallery. In immediate vicinity of the Kunstmuseum Bern and the centre for art production PROGR, a space was found, which provided more room to display the ambitious program. Five years later, in 2010, Bernhard Bischoff became again the sole owner of the gallery and moved into new premises next to the Waisenhausplatz in Berne. With a view on the fountain of Swiss surrealist artist Meret Oppenheim and in the same building as the Stadtgalerie, the project room for contemporary art of the Kunstmuseum Bern and the Visarte gallery, Bernhard Bischoff’s gallery is today imbedded in a unique centre of contemporary art. The gallery’s program consists of a well-balanced mixture of different genres of contemporary art. Paintings, drawings, and sculptures are represented as well as installations, video art, photography and new media. Similar to any other investments, consulting also comes first in the art business. Collectors want and should experience more about the artists and their works. The gallery is happy to be able to provide this know-how. Staying true to our slogan „Think, be proactive, and open for requirements and suggestions!“, we are aiming to present national and international art positions and to acquire publicity as an active mediator and promoter of contemporary art on Switzerland and on an international level. In addition to regular gallery exhibitions, the Bernhard Bischoff & Partner also presents and organizes a variety of interventions in public space, performances and symposiums.
